Ingredient Battle: Kaolin vs. Bentonite
Face masks are an important step in any skin care routine. They help maintain moisture, improve skin tone, remove dead skin, and so much more! Kaolin and bentonite are clay masks that are all the rage. So what are they? And why should you try them?
Kaolin
What is it?
It is a clay rich with the kaolinite mineral. And that mineral is ideal for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and most effective as a mask.
Why do people love it?
People love it not only because it keeps all skin types looking young and healthy without any adverse reactions, but also because it can be combined with other ingredients to create a powerhouse face mask! You can combine kaolin with your favorite essential oil or other age-fighting ingredient to maintain that youthful glow.
Benefits
First, kaolin exfoliates debris and dead skin cells from your face. It penetrates deeply into your pores, pulling out any impurities, keeping your skin clean and looking fresh. Second, it helps with oily skin by reducing the production of oil your face, and helps with maintaining balanced oil production. And third, it improves blood circulation to the face. Better circulation means skin cells are able to regenerate more easily, keeping you looking young.
How to Use It
Simply combine the clay with equals parts water, apply to your face, and let it dry on your skin (typically about 15 minutes. Only about 5 minutes for sensitive skin). Then, wash off with water.
Bentonite
Watch this video from Dr. Josh Axe as he explains the many benefits of bentonite clay!
What is it?
Bentonite is a natural-forming clay that is both gentle and effective on the face. It has the ability to remove toxins from the skin, and can revive and heal skin in a variety of ways, such as smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, evening out skin tone, and more!
Why do people love it?
Bentonite is mild, which means that even for those with more sensitive skin, they can use bentonite and not worry about any adverse reactions (for the most part. Still test it on your skin). It also produces results. Yes, you’ll start to see a difference the more consistently you use it!
Benefits
As mentioned before, bentonite will remove toxins from your skin. When you use bentonite clay, it will both pull out toxins and leave behind healing minerals in its place for your facial skin to absorb. Talk about awesome! Bentonite masks even help with unclogging and shrinking pores. In order to keep your pores smaller, you need to make sure they aren’t clogged. Applying a bentonite mask to your face will do just that. Bentonite exfoliates naturally, which means any dead skin cells removed will be removed, and the exfoliation will slow any fine line and wrinkle development.
How to Use It
There are multiple ways to use bentonite clay, but one of the simplest is to mix water with the clay. Enough water to make a spreadable paste. Then, leave it on your face for 30 minutes, rinse with warm water, and voila! You’re done!
If you'd like to combine the amazing benefits of both bentonite and kaolin, try out or Swiss-formulated Anti-Aging Purifying Clay Mask! This face mask will remove the toxins from your skin and replace them with nourishing minerals and antioxidants. Go clay!
